Rate a Peacock; win a Tiger
Have had a new sample peacock wall decal printed (finally!) and can’t decide between vivid, near fluorescent new colours (above 1) or more ‘adult-like’ hues of previous version (above 2), bearing in my all previous versions – as far as I know – have been bought by women for themselves. Advice please! Which would you prefer? Everyone who comments before August 15th will be entered into draw for a Tiger and Jungle sticker set (below) on the 16th.

As I’ve been uploading this epic post (of some of my favourite bird designs online) I’ve been listening to the near constant football rattle of a couple of magpies outside. Touch ironic: they’re the only bird i DON’T like. they can’t sing, they can barely fly and they seem to spend most of their time harassing smaller birds and eating their young. talentless bully-boys…
Save the Peacock (?!)
For the past couple of months I’ve been suffering from creative block. Admittedly I’ve had very little time lately to spend on my own graphics work but it goes beyond that. If I’m honest its because I’m feeling defeatist. Its the peacock wall decal that’s done it. I can’t find a new printer to produce it.
Finding a printer you can work well with and who doesn’t mind initially small jobs, is a task in itself, but finding one to produce this ornate little baby to a high retail standard, with all his (well, what I originally thought were) clever little cuts and curves, has been trickier than a Derren Brown omnibus.
And there’s the rub: I’ve no shortage of ideas and energy, but if i can’t print my designs, where does this leave me? Sulking over an abandoned folder of decal artwork, sipping a cold coffee and staring forlornly at the beautiful peacock on the wall, possibly the last in a small line, and proudly oblivious to its fate.
Update: to ease my frustration I’ve designed a pair of peacock prints for my online shops. You can view them here: http://www.sallyboyle.co.uk/blog/?p=940
If you know of a friendly UK printer (with a printer/cutter) who doesn’t mind smaller print runs, please email me: sally@sallyboyle.co.uk. Thank you!
Year of the Tiger
I’m currently selling the last of my limited edition tiger and jungle set at cost price (+ a small amount to the tiger preservation charity www.tigersforever.org
in order to make way (pay!) for some new designs and stock. The last 3 sets are listed on Etsy ($58.50), Dawanda (€43) and Folksy (£38) and include instructions and care advice. I think they’re possibly the cheapest, easiest (and most original!) way to cheer up a kid’s bedroom, but what would I know – I’m 34!
In celebration of the great beast itself, a few other furball designs I found on the tinterweb… Here’s hoping there’ll still be some left in the wild before the next Year of the Tiger sweeps round. Click on the images to find who’s designed and selling what:-
