As I’ve been uploading this epic post (of some of my favourite bird designs online) I’ve been listening to the near constant football rattle of a couple of magpies outside. Touch ironic: they’re the only bird i DON’T like. they can’t sing, they can barely fly and they seem to spend most of their time harassing smaller birds and eating their young. talentless bully-boys…
100% designer-maker shopping experience!
I’ll be here, with more cards and prints than a Paperchase warehouse. The previous fairs have been great. There’s a touch of the vintage bonanza about the whole affair. Catered by The Marvellous Tea Dance Company. And yes, the cakes are indeed Marvellous.
New Light
Has been a while since I’ve had time to browse my favourite shops online so not surprised to discover the fabuloso Radiance appears to have lots of lovely new housey and lifestyle stuff, including these simple but brilliant wired flowers by Dutch designer Jurianne Matter; a foxy tea towel by Lush Designs, cards by Sanna Annukka, and a (relatively?) new dandelion lamp design by Radiance owner Hannah Nunn.
Green with Envy
I needed this dress by D4discus, who have a stall at Spitalfields Market. I google ‘green dress’ about every fortnight looking for the holy grail of garments. Plus I love fawns, deers – things with big brown eyes and sunset skin (http://www.etsy.com/listing/35262826). I won’t get over this one. its a OOAK, cos its made with a vintage scarf. bum-mer!
Coming in from the Cold
Aren’t these little guys (sea) swell? Theresia of UK-based Strawberries and Cream is currently Etsy’s featured seller. I like her cuddlies – they’re not over cute, and they capture character. The colourways are often quite masculine: http://www.minoridesign.com/
This Week’s Love
I’m going to attempt a weekly blog post, picking my 3 current favourite design wants: That which I can afford (Sale!) , that I can kid myself I can afford (Stretch!), and that which I can just daydream about (So far off!). So here goes:
SO FAR OFF!: a Madeleine Boulesteix chandelier. http://www.madeleineboulesteix.co.uk. Prices on request:
STRETCH!: Topshop Unique leather and demin biker jacker. £150. www.topshop.com:
SALE!: Lush Design’s new Fox and Cubs mug in bone china (to match my Lush ‘Foxy’ lampshade). £15. www.lushlampshades.co.uk:
Leeds Vintage Fashion Fair: Feb 2010
Perhaps followed by the Cupcake Challenge at Mojos, discovered courtesy of Ruthie Macall… Sam and Sally, who run the fairs, have also started a designer-maker event called 100% Handmade. There’s going to be another in the pretty tourist town of Ilkley on March 20th. The last one was fab. Vintage style tea and cakes, music bunting and plenty of people: like something straight of out Darling Buds in May!
Love craft? Live Yorkshire?
I was contacted by Amy Knowles of Barnsley Civic Gallery about being a stallholder at the new LOVE CRAFT fair. If you’re interested in a table contact email amyelizabethknowles@gmail.com or phone the Civic on 01226 327011, no later than Valentine’s Day. The tables are FREE! (“all we ask is that your work is completely handmade or your own design, high quality and presented in a visually exciting way”).
LOVE CRAFT: Saturday March 20th
