As I’ve been uploading this epic post (of some of my favourite bird designs online) I’ve been listening to the near constant football rattle of a couple of magpies outside. Touch ironic: they’re the only bird i DON’T like. they can’t sing, they can barely fly and they seem to spend most of their time harassing smaller birds and eating their young. talentless bully-boys…
Spellbinder
Hannah Nunn has kindly tweeted notice of Emerald Faerie’s new website. Awesome work. Just need that castle now…
Something from Nothing
look what I got! one beautiful graphic print by Graphic Nothing. Simple yet clever, and I love the colourways. Nice guy too. Currently 3 for 2 on his etsy page – you could have a triptych!
Stefan Kanchev
Beautiful logos by Bulgarian ‘National Artist’ Stefan Kanchev… I love the Eastern European folk style sensibility you can trace in his style. Thanks Grainedit and Delicious Industries for posting about him!
Jake's Rocket Man/House/Frankenstein's Monster
Handing him a couple of scrappy printouts of my soon-to-be birdhouse decals I asked my friend Jake to come up with some layout ideas for inclusion with the ‘product’. Three days later I am proudly presented with Jake’s ever-individual take on art (and life) lovingly PritStik-ed to two sheets of yellowing scrapbook. From what I could make out, this is a kind of ‘Rocket Man’ shooting out into orbit. Neither of us knew what the bird was ‘about’, although we did have a short but truly pretentious brainstorming sesh about what it could mean, as if it could ever mean anything. Of course, I had first to get over the fact he’d cut up my beautiful bird in order to make this profound art statement, but then art IS a painful and challenging process…Rather a vinyl bird tail than an ear, so let us be thankful
Thank you Jake. I owe you one x
Emoticon Snobbery
Devil emoticon = Tony Blair
Emoticons: naff, aren’t they? And its so easy for a designer to get sniffy about the primitive graphics (50 seconds in adobe illustrator?). Why is it then that i spent my friday night matching them to celebrities on a skype call to my mum?
Rob’s my brother. He claims to eat nothing but pizza and curry… in case you were wondering. it makes him feel like a man
